The Education Center, located at 901 S 4th Street, will close for repairs and renovations on Thursday, October 6, and is scheduled for completion by the end of March 2023. Additionally, the Education Center will be closed to all traffic on October 6, 7, and 10. It will reopen with limited access on October 11. The timing of the project to begin after the start of the school year and span Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks was chosen to help minimize potential disruption of services provided to district families.
Human Resources and Student Registration, Fees and Records Education Center offices will be temporarily relocated to the Menta Academy, 900 E. Garden Street, DeKalb. Hours of operation will remain, Mon. – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. All other Education Center employees will be located in the NIU building at 3100 Sycamore Road, DeKalb. District offices moved into the Education Center building, a former Eagle’s grocery store, in 1992. Aging rooftop heating and cooling units are more than 20 years old and require replacement. Additional repairs and renovations will include redoing ductwork, replacing ceilings, replacing lights with energy-efficient lighting, replacing flooring, including repair from recent flood damage, and painting.
