Hueramo Contract Approval

The DeKalb CUSD 428 Board of Education unanimously voted to approve the negotiated contract to appoint Billy Hueramo as superintendent, effective July 1, 2026, at its special board meeting held on January 5, 2026. Board Vice President Jose Jaques was unable to attend the meeting, but has expressed his support for Hueramo's appointment.

Hueramo expressed his gratitude during the meeting saying, "I just want to thank everyone. I’m very grateful for the opportunity.” With his family present, he also shared. "It’s hard not to cry with my mom here. Thank you. Thank you. I’m very blessed to be able to be in the position that I am in,” he said. “All of you who have been part of this journey know who you are.”

"After evaluating a diverse pool of exceptional candidates that included educators from across the country, it became clear that Billy Hueramo possesses the unique combination of institutional knowledge, visionary leadership, and a deep-seated commitment to our students," said Christopher Boyes, President of the Board of Education. "His proven track record within our own hallways and his clear plan for the district’s future stood out during the final interview process."

Hueramo was selected from a pool of more 25 internal and external applicants from various educational backgrounds. The Board put forth seven candidates for the first round of interviews, which were then narrowed down to four finalists who underwent comprehensive interviews with more than 40 members of interview teams comprised of department directors, union leadership, employees, and community members. Three of the four finalists were external candidates.

Current superintendent Minerva Garcia-Sanchez, Ed.D., announced in August that she would not seek renewal of her contract. She will conclude her duties on June 30, 2026.
