Dear Littlejohn Parents,
We are excited about a brand new year at Littlejohn, and this year we are starting a new program called P.B.I.S which stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. P.B.I.S. is a proactive approach for creating and maintaining a safe and effective learning environment. The focus of this program is to teach expected behaviors much like we do our academics. The staff teaches and reinforces the expected behaviors so that students always understand what is expected of them. P.B.I.S. provides clear rules for each school setting and has systems in place to reward students when they follow our school expectations. Our school expectations are: Be Ready. Be Respectful. Be Safe. Be Responsible.
Each week students will learn a specific targeted behavior. Teachers will teach this “cool tool” lesson on the first day of the week, and reward and reinforce the specific expectations all week long. Students may receive a “Behavior Buck” from any staff member at school. These bucks can be used to purchase items at the school store, or be saved for future events.
Another part of P.B.I.S. will be our monthly celebrations. Every month, the students and staff will get together for a fun event, assembly, or craft. The students earn their way into the monthly celebrations if they receive one office referral or less for that month. Students who receive more than one office referral cannot attend the monthly celebration. Teachers will be keeping a classroom incident report for students. If a student receives three offenses in the classroom, that will equal one office referral report.
