Dick Durbin talks to Huntley Middle School Students (DeKalb Daily Chronicle Article)

An interactive and state standard based activity called On-This-Day, is played daily in our classroom. This activity is an opportunity for students to share their knowledge of important events in history while allowing others to gain knowledge about specific time periods (to see daily historical events, click here). Each day five years are listed on the board that match five separate events that are read aloud, one by one. All five events took place on that day's particular date in history. As students attempt to match an event to the year, points are accumulated comparable to strokes in golf, with the least amount of points being the objective. Scores are carried over each day of the week until a winner is crowned at the end of each week. Weekly point totals are also carried for the duration of the month, with the winning class receiving free pizza.

The weekly event sheets from this year are posted on this web site (check weekly sheets here soon) as are the weekly and monthly totals if you are keeping score at home. Students are encouraged to check out the On-This-Day web site for more information on events for a particular day. And remember, no matter what day it is, you can play On-This-Day!

Illinois Student Vote

Sometimes in our everyday lives we tend to forget what's going on elsewhere in the world and that the brave men and women of the service are just like you and I. They have family and friends back home who love them very much and are praying for their safe return.
