WELCOME TO DEKALB HIGH SCHOOL!
We are a learning community of over 1700 students, offering a wide range of curriculum choices from which our students can choose a variety of classes over the four years they spend at DHS. Approximately 80-85% of our students choose to continue their education after high school at a 2 year or 4 year institution of higher learning. We offer eight Advanced Placement classes, and a variety of electives and core academic classes to meet our graduation requirement of 22 credits. We have a variety of extracurricular activities to suit the needs and interests of all our students. These offerings include athletics, clubs, music, drama and fine arts.
As we move into the 21 st century, it is our goal to prepare our students for success in a globally interactive society. Our staff of 110 teachers, 40 support personnel and five administrators is a group of highly qualified educators and individuals who have high expectations for learning and behavior for all of our students. We believe in creating an inclusive learning environment that welcomes all students as active participants in our community of learners.
As principal of DeKalb High School, I believe in creating a climate in our building that is conducive to learning, is supportive of excellent instruction and teaching techniques, and one that encourages students to try new things, become involved in activities of all types at our school and to enjoy their high school experience. In the bigger picture, it is important that our students emerge as employable, skilled and educated individuals who can contribute positively to our changing world. A high school diploma with “ DeKalb High School” on it means a quality education, and a wealth of rich educational experiences, both in and out of our classrooms.
We invite parents and community members to be partners in our quest to educate and support the youth of DeKalb, Illinois.
