for the home, school, and community. All grades may participate to develop
leadership through service, as well as have fun helping others. We are
the oldest continuously active club in the Illinois/Eastern Iowa District
of 191 clubs. |

Students are chosen by testing
in math class. Geometry and above only. Team is chosen about March. Individual
and team competition. One meet vs. Upstate 8 schools. Math teachers let
students know about this. You must be enrolled in the class to participate. |
| National Honor Society |

Junior and senior students are
selected by the National Honor Society Faculty Council. The criteria used
for selection are academics (3.5 GPA or higher), character, leadership,
and volunteerism. Once a student is inducted into NHS, their GPA must
remain at 3.5 or above and 9 hours of volunteer/community service must
be completed each semester. |
| New Pennies |

The New Pennies staff is made up
of the Creative Writing II students. They judge submissions, design and
layout the magazine with desktop publishing software. Creative Writing
I is a pre-requisite. |

This class will teach the skills necessary for writing and publishing
a newspaper. You need a "B" average in humanities to sign up for this

Scholastic Bowl
WYSE |

Scholastic Bowl is an
IHSA competition for academics, a team "Jeopardy". WYSE is similar except
students compete by taking exam in their area of specialty. Both forms
of competition pyramid to the state level. |

A student needs to be in a Spanish
class or to have been in a Spanish class. We have about five meetings
per year. "Day of the Dead" celebration, Christmas fiesta, dance demonstration,
T-shirt making/designing, and "Cinco de Mayo" celebration. You don't need
to speak Spanish at the meetings. |
