Welcome Tyler Families
Greetings Tyler Families,
Welcome to Tyler Elementary School. Everyone at Tyler Elementary School is anticipating an exciting year. We are looking forward to seeing all of your smiling faces in the weeks to come. Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Please note this is a full day for all students Kindergarten-5th grade. Our regular school hours will remain the same for this upcoming school year- 8:45 A.M-3:30 P.M.
Below you will find more information to get the year started. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Attendance and Tardiness
If your child is going to be absent or tardy, parents/guardians should notify the school office by calling (815) 754-2389 by 8:45 A.M. If you drop off/pick up your student before the bell rings at the beginning or end of the day, they will be given a tardy.
Please note there was a change in the truancy law last year. This will still be in effect for the upcoming year. Any families, who were in truancy last year, will carry over to this year. Cathy Stoddard, our regional truancy officer will be contacting you.
Breakfast begins at approximately 8:25 A.M. School breakfast will cost $1.55 per day. School lunches will cost $2.46 per day for full price students. A computerized system called Family Access is used to facilitate meal purchases. Checks for school meals can be sent to the Education Service Center attention Food Service at 901 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115-4411. You will be required to keep track of the positive balance in the account so that your child/children are able to purchase meals. If you prefer, payments can also be made with a credit card through Family Access. As a courtesy a friendly reminder will be sent home with your child when your balance reaches $10.00. Children may bring a cold lunch and purchase a carton of milk for $0.40 per day or $2.00 per week if they desire. Please feel free to review information regarding free and reduced breakfast and lunch that was provided during registration. Do not send any cash or checks to Tyler for your child’s breakfast or lunch. All money must be sent to the Education Center.
Open House/Parent Orientation
Our annual Open House/Parent Orientation Night will take place Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 6:00-7:30. Please come out to meet your child’s classroom teacher, get information about the curriculum and receive valuable information to get your school year started off right.
Arrivals and Dismissals
As our student enrollment grows so does the number of parent pick-ups during arrival and dismissal time. Therefore, it is important that we all lend a hand regarding the safety of all of our students. Due to lack of supervision, students SHOULD NOT arrive to school before 8:20A.M. We want to ensure the safety of every student. Please refrain from parking your vehicle and leaving it unattended in the fire lane immediately outside the front doors. It forces other drivers to double park and/or drive around your vehicle. This is not safe for our kids. If you would like to come in and drop your child off, please park your car on the closest street to the field and come inside. We are also asking that you not park in a handicap spot, unless you carry the appropriate documentation to do so. These parking spots are for our families who need special accommodations, and we want to everything we can to assist them. Failure to comply with any of the above parking laws may result in a ticket from our local police department. As a friendly reminder, if you are picking up your child they will always be dismissed at 3:30 P.M from the front door. For students who are riding the bus, there are new protocols put into place for all elementary buildings. Tyler students in grades Kindergarten -2nd grade will have special tags attached to their backpacks to inform staff of which bus the students will ride. Due to several buses having multiple stops for various schools, all students riding a bus to Tyler Elementary will see a PINK sign in the bus window. All elementary schools will also be implementing assigned seating on all buses. We will be sending home a request form to families who would like siblings to sit together. We will do our best to accommodate your request. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, suggestions and/or concerns please feel free to contact us. We are here to serve you.
If you have any questions about any of this information, please contact me at (815)754-2389 or at email@example.com.We are looking forward to a great school year!
