 Message from the Principal:

As I am now well into my second year as the principal of DeKalb High School, I would like to thank the community for all of the support I have received since joining the DHS family. It is my pleasure to work with your children on an ongoing basis so that as learners, they gain new understandings and transfer learning to new and unique situations.

Our main focus at DHS continues to ensure a rich learning environment for every student. The teachers at DHS are working closely with the district in developing curriculum that is aligned with the Common Core State Standards across all content areas, in all courses. Our students experience a core academic program designed to provide flexibility in addressing their academic strengths and growth areas through our varied courses. Students participate in fine and applied arts classes and choose among an array of elective offerings to pursue existing passions and discover new interests.

In order to recognize differences in achievement and efforts as well as to encourage students to take courses that challenge them to the highest potential, beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, DHS will utilize a system of grade weighting according to three course level offerings. The three levels and grade weighting are:

A.P. Level        Honors Level   All Other Courses

A – 5.0            A – 4.5              A – 4.0

B – 4.0            B – 3.5              B – 3.0

C – 3.0             C – 2.5              C – 2.0

D – 1.0            D – 1.0             D – 1.0

F – 0.0             F – 0.0              F – 0.0

I look forward to continued improvement of our classroom instruction, promoting learning for all students. I would love to hear from you and invite you to contact me with your ideas, input, questions or concerns at any time by contacting me at tamra.ropeter@dist428.org.

Sincerely,

Tamra Ropeter, Ed.S.
