03/15/2008 - Rosette and Huntley Wrestlers Claim Top Spots in State Tournament

The Clinton Rosette Middle School wrestling team recently completed a successful season by finishing fifth in the IESA (Illinois Elementary School Association) state wrestling tournament.  This is the third time in the four year history of the program that Rosette has finished in the top five in the state, including the 2006 state championship.  In addition to their strong performance at the state tournament, the team also won the regional and sectional tournaments the previous two weeks.

Rosette had four wrestlers earn all-state honors by placing in the top six in their respective brackets at the state tournament.  Chazz Middlebrook finished fifth in the 145 pound weight class.  Drake Lopez finished fourth in the 215 pound weight class.  Oscar Aguilar finished third in the 185 pound weight class and Evan Jones finished in second place in the 100 pound bracket after falling in a hard fought match in the championship round.  Clinton Rosette finished the season with a dual record of 15-1.

Doug Johnson, a seventh grader at Huntley Middle school, started his journey to a 2008 IESA state championship in the 95 pound bracket last summer. He wrestled in more than fifteen off-season wrestling tournaments and went to two technique camps. Johnson placed first in all but one of his tournaments this year and compiled a 33-3 record. He will return next year to try to defend his title. Joey Siebrasse (85#), Johnny Lovett (85#), Tony Taylor (105#), Videl Thomas (119#), and Cullen Banta (167#) all from Huntley, as well as Wes Smith (155#) from Clinton Rosette also qualified for the state meet.
