For the second consecutive year, DeKalb Public Library has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for the "Big Read", a community-wide reading project for October based on a literary classic. This year's book was, "To Kill A Mockingbird". Numerous events were hosted throughout DeKalb County during the month of October to promote reading for pleasure. All District 428 schools were invited to participate, however, some schools chose to read books on similar topics of justice, fairness, decision-making, tolerance, choices, or the difference between right and wrong.
The following totals were gathered regarding the books read by students at Huntley Middle School:
Team 6 Orange: 156
Team 6 Black: 123
Team 7 Orange: 190
